For this project, City First Youth wanted a vibrant, eye-catching design for their Summer Kick Off event, abbreviated as SKO. I started the design with this in mind and began by developing the color palette that I wanted to use. After finalizing the color palette I was going to work with, I found reference photos to base my illustration on and used one for the forest, one for the flamingos, and one for the toucan. I brought those photos into Photoshop and began illustrating. Since their was a tighter time restraint on this project than normal, instead of making it vector in Illustrator I created this design with large enough dimensions and resolution in Photoshop that it wouldn’t cause issues with any application. After finishing the illustration, I began adding the details of the event. I used a clean white font to contrast the color in the background of the design and pair with the minimalism of the illustration. To increase readability, I placed multiple lines of text within a colored box that matched colors in the background to increase contrast with the background. Finally I added the youth department’s logo at the bottom of the design to tie in their branding.
